07 Jan January Note From Dri: Happy New Year
Happy New Year! This year the Christian Education (CE) Committee has some exciting things planned. For starters, our new Sunday School classes roll out this coming Sunday. There are two adult classes that you will love.
The first is a survey of the Major Prophets where Pastor Shaun will walk through the Major Prophets explaining the main themes of each book and taking the time to look more deeply at select passages. And if you’re unfamiliar with the Major Prophets or asking what in the world makes them “major,” don’t worry Pastor Shaun will cover that too.
The second class is on Tim Keller’s book The Meaning of Marriage lead by Dr. Chip Pollard and Dr. Trisha Posey. This book casts a vision of what marriage should be according to the Bible: a picture of the gospel. It goes beyond romance to what makes a successful marriage. It’s a great class whether you’re single, newly married, or been married for ages. Books are $10. Please click the button below to purchase your book today so we can make sure to have the right number for Sunday.
The middle school youth will dive into what it means to be a disciple and how to grow in discipleship. The high school youth will be looking at the fruit of the spirit. Beyond just talking about love, joy, peace, etc. they’re inviting real life Christians to talk about their experiences with each of the fruits and how they can encourage the growth of the fruit of the spirit in their own lives. And the children will continue their walk through the Old Testament, wrapping up the Pentateuch (the first 5 books of the Bible) and heading into the books of history.
On Wednesdays, we have lots of fun classes starting. The children from 6th grade and below will be working on Scripture memorization. We’ll have two classes, one for our older Preschoolers through 2nd grade, and one for our 2nd through 6th graders. With the overlap of 2nd grade, Parents of 2nd graders can choose which class best suits their child. Youth Group will be discussing how to engage with culture using a book called Navigating Culture from the Track series put on by Reformed Youth Ministries (RYM).
Adults on Wednesdays have the opportunity for a really unique and fun class on friendship: how friendship is a picture of the gospel, why it’s vital to the life of the believer, and practical ways to live out the gospel in your friendships. This class will be led by Kendra Cooke and is sure to be meaningful whether you have tons of friends or a few close ones.
The CE Committee also has plans to get our new church library up and running in 2025. We’ve come a long way with all the prep work in 2024. Now we just have to make it a reality. Once our library is ready to go, we plan to make a wishlist of books we’d love to see populate our library. Be on the lookout for that sometime near the end of the semester!
